The Question
I run a Kink/Swing Event. I am looking for some suggestions and guidance about how to expand our exposure and possible get more people out. Especially women. The website is www.wonderland4all.ca
Mr Fluffer’s Answer:
After looking at the website, the first thing I would do is move from WordPress hosted blog to your own domain on your own hosting service. At today’s rates, you can’t beat the cost of self hosting.
For search engine marketing, I would keep the WordPress blog for articles and other information, with several links in each post going back to the new website.
Being on your own domain has several advantages. It helps in overall search results. Makes you look real and if WordPress ever gets politically correct and does a sudden purge on adult material, you would be suddenly toast.
I would stick with a self hosted WordPress blog. With your own blog on your own website, you can add some great plugins to soup up the blog. Plugins are programs that can do some of the tasks that you need done and adds more functionality to the blog. Things you can’t add on a hosted blog.
Next up is the layout. First look, I have no real idea who you are, what you do or who the website relates to. You know what it is and the current customers probably do as well, but what about the first time surfer or the people you refer to it. Do they get an instant answer to “is this for me?”? Am I invited??
The reason I point to this first is that if the web-page is not immediately informative and well organized, social media is not going to help you one bit. Once the reader qualifies the website, than they will dig deeper and stay longer. A very important element in marketing.
Speaking of first blush… The current banner was perfect for a graphic arts student project, not to promote a business or an event. Yes, it needs to be creative, catchy and colorful. But it needs to be informative as well.
A Few Words About keywords…
Your opening paragraphs should be very well worded with the search terms or keywords your viewer would use to find you or what the website is about. Swinging, what night, who, when, why and where.
When I look at my stats, I like to see more referrals from other websites, than from search words. People who come to your website from another website, tend to stay longer and be more active than ones from search engines. So you want to attract other website readers. You need to get on the websites the visitors are on.
There are a ton of link pages and resource sites for adult webmasters and websites. Get a link back from the more popular ones. Do a search for your best keywords and get on their sites.
Look at the search words your visitors use and base future articles on those words. Post the articles on various sites as well as your own. if you chose the right webhost, you can have several domain on one plan. Get a few more domains and build a few informative websites that relate to your subject.
In that vain, I would write some great informative articles (weekly??) on swinging, sex and lifestyle issues and post them on your site. Again, this feeds the search engines and helps other want to link to your articles/website.
Also I see that you link to Ask Dan and Jenn… Use them for inspiration, information, traffic and education. Go to their website and look around. See what they are doing to attract traffic and keep readers engaged. Find all the posts that relate to your event and comment on them. Do this with other popular dating and romance sites.
You are on Yahoo… They have a active vanilla “Answers and Questions” sections where people ask questions wanting answers from others. Go there and answer some.
Do Not Comment Anonymously. Be public about who you are. If you need to, use a gmail email address that is the same as your website and use that for commenting and replies. If you have a profile linked to your email address (gravtar) it should link back to your website.
Once on your own host, I would install Piwik for analytic’s. This is much better than Google and you own the data. The program is free and easy to install.
Being an Adult event, there are privacy issues and trust. So the “host” section should be rearranged. Who exactly are the two women in the photo?? How do I get more info on them (fetlife profiles? Alt profiles?? )
The two “host’s should be first and foremost on the page. With more information on them and their backgrounds to host such an event. More information on the location and the establishment.
Why do you have a section on fantasy stories?? Shouldn’t that be stories about what people experienced at this event?? Personal stories from the people who were there?? Not exactly testimonials, but some hot erotica that involves your event. Again, using those very important key words from past visitors.
No Contact Button…. ????
I would go to HotMovies, become an affiliate of theirs. They have a passcard promotion for their movies. A card that offers the person 30 minutes of free porn. Attach your event card or sticker saying “compliments of…” to that and pass that out. People hang on to that and it attracts others if left in other kink/adult venues…. Plus you make a few $$
Lastly (for now…) The website at first blush screams “Women Only” yet as I read further than most first timers would, I discover it is a truly swinging event for all sexes. Just not sure where it is.
Let me know if this helped. Any questions or comments, let me know.
